If you missed any, be sure to read back on our<a href=\"https:\/\/ccpc.inventise.ie\/consumers\/tag\/money\/\"> news stories<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we finish up GMW by looking at financial education in our schools, focusing on secondary school programmes.<\/p>\n<h2>Why financial education in schools?<\/h2>\n<p>Financial literacy and education for children and young people are key priorities for the Irish Government and the EU. Ireland is developing its first National Financial Literacy Strategy, with children and young people as a key target group. In October 2023, the EU\/OECD published the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_23_4647\">Financial Competence Framework for Children and Youth<\/a>. The framework provides a basis for financial literacy programmes in schools and is designed to support young people with personal financial decisions now, and later in life.<\/p>\n<h2>What the CCPC has to offer<\/h2>\n<p>The CCPC has a statutory role in financial education. Our financial education programmes in secondary schools include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moneymatters.ccpc.ie\">Money Matters<\/a>, a programme on personal finance for Junior Cycle teachers and students.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ccpc.inventise.ie\/consumers\/about\/financial-education\/leaving-cert-applied\/leaving-cert-applied\/\">Money Counts<\/a>, which provides resources for the Leaving Cert Applied programme.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moneymatters.ccpc.ie\/unit-of-learning\/\">Me and My Money<\/a>; a unit of learning on Budgeting and Household Management to be used by Business Studies and Home Economics teachers in the classroom.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moneymatters.ccpc.ie\/abhair-airgid\/\">\u00c1bhair Airgid<\/a> is a bespoke Irish-language resource for Business Studies and Home Economics teachers and students developed by the CCPC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>School and young people events during GMW 2024<\/h2>\n<p>Irish GMW partners organised a series of events for schools and young people this week, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>MABS<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) has delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/mabs.ie\/globalmoneyweek2024\/\" class=\"broken_link\">GMW money management workshops<\/a> in secondary schools since 2019, and were present in schools throughout Ireland again this year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revenue<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Revenue Commissioners promoted their \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revenue.ie\/en\/tax-education\/ty-module\/index.aspx\">Introduction to Tax\u2019<\/a> education module for Transition Year students. Revenue also gave schools outreach presentations to schools in Cork and Galway focusing on cybersecurity, fraud, smishing, phishing and safely interacting with Revenue. Teacher and student materials are available to download in English and Irish.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BPFI European Money Quiz<br \/>\n<\/strong>Thursday saw secondary schools in Ireland compete in the live online final of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bpfi.ie\/moneyquiz\/\">European Money Quiz<\/a>. The winning team travels to Brussels to represent\u00a0Ireland in the European Finals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Junior Achievement Ireland (JAI)<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/jai.ie\/ja-finance-park\/\">JA Finance Park<\/a> is a secondary school financial literacy programme, supported by the CCPC, that aims to build a financial literacy foundation for students. During GMW, JAI delivered JA Finance Park and other programmes in secondary schools.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Euronext<br \/>\n<\/strong>Euronext took part in GMW by opening its Irish stock exchange floor to two Dublin secondary schools and delivering a financial literacy workshop to students.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brokers Ireland<br \/>\n<\/strong>Brokers Ireland\u2019s \u2018Future Financial Experts\u2019 financial literacy programme is aimed at TY students. During GMW, Brokers Ireland held a Q&amp;A &#8216;Ask the Expert&#8217; podcast with a Financial Broker and two teenagers discussing money tips and suggestions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Institute of Banking (IOB)<br \/>\n<\/strong>The IOB held daily webinars concentrating on the daily themes of GMW.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The FSPO<br \/>\n<\/strong>The FSPO focused on fraud cases and money mules and building financial education awareness.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Central Bank<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Central Bank publicised its content on crypto, savings, investing your money and scams and fraud.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Closing event and ministerial visit<br \/>\n<\/strong>The CCPC will close GMW 2024 today with the Minister for Finance visiting Col\u00e1iste Eaman R\u00eds secondary school in Cork.
