This page covers your rights to information and to cancel when you buy online, by catalogue, over the phone or at your doorstep.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion-1\" class=\"accordion no-js\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t1\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tYour right to information\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c1\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<h2>Before you buy<\/h2>\n<p>The business must provide the following information to you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>about the business \u2013 their name, physical address, phone number, email<\/li>\n<li>what you are buying \u2013 what the product\/service is, the arrangements to deliver\/supply it to you<\/li>\n<li>costs \u2013 the total price, any other charges or how the price\/charges will be calculated<\/li>\n<li>cancellation \u2013 your right to cancel and how to cancel<\/li>\n<li>other information \u2013 the length of the contract, the conditions that apply to a deposit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These information requirements do not apply when you buy on your doorstep for less than \u20ac50.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"toptip\"><\/p>\n<h3>Top Tip<\/h3>\n<p>Just because a website ends in &#8216;.ie&#8217;, does not mean it&#8217;s based in Ireland. Always check the terms and conditions to see where a website is based when buying online.<\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/p>\n<h2>Making an online payment<\/h2>\n<p>When you buy online the business must make sure that you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>always know when you are making a payment. This means that when you order by clicking a button, it must be clearly labelled with words indicating \u2018obligation to pay\u2019 or similar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>can easily show if you want other products or services. This means that a business cannot use pre-ticked boxes for additional payments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>After you buy<\/h2>\n<p>The business must give you a copy of the signed contract or confirmation of your order.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t2\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tInformation for online marketplaces\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c2\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>When you use an online marketplace such as donedeal.ie, ebay.ie, booking.com, the operator must tell you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>how they rank the results for their online search<\/li>\n<li>whether the seller is a business or consumer<\/li>\n<li>that you are not protected by consumer law when the seller is a consumer<\/li>\n<li>how consumer law obligations are shared between the website operator and the business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The information should be in plain language and easy to find.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t3\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tYour right to cancel\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c3\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>You can cancel and get a full refund up to 14 days from when you make a purchase. This right extends to 30 days for doorstep sales. For goods, the cancellation timeline starts after you physically receive them.<\/p>\n<p>When you use this right, you do not have to give the business a reason for cancelling. If there is a dispute, it is up to you to show that you used your right to cancel.<\/p>\n<h2>Business obligations<\/h2>\n<p>The business must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inform you that you can cancel and detail the cancellation timescales<\/li>\n<li>give you a cancellation form and explain how you cancel<\/li>\n<li>provide a refund, when applicable:\n<ul>\n<li>no later than 14 days after you cancelled<\/li>\n<li>using the same payment method you paid with, unless you agree otherwise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>cancel any other service you ordered with the goods\/service \u2013 for example, insurance for a sofa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the business does not tell you of your right to cancel, the right to cancel extends to 12 months from the date it was due to expire.<\/p>\n<h2>Using your right to cancel<\/h2>\n<p>When you want to use your right to cancel, you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inform the business in writing within the cancellation timescale<\/li>\n<li>return the goods to the business and pay any costs that may apply<\/li>\n<li>return the goods to the business within 14 days of cancelling and pay any costs that apply<\/li>\n<li>not use the service you are cancelling and pay for what you have used<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When the right to cancel does not apply<\/h2>\n<p>The right to cancel does not apply in certain circumstances, for example if a product\/service is personalised or not suitable for return for heath\/hygiene reasons.<\/p>\n<p>The right to cancel in consumer law also does not apply in some sectors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>passenger transport services (for example, air, rail, boat, bus)<\/li>\n<li>contracts for accommodation, transport of goods, car rental services, catering or leisure activities when they are for a set date or period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to cancel a service in these sectors you should check the t&amp;c\u2019s in your contract to see if this is possible.\u00a0 If you feel that a business is not adhering to your contract, you should complain to them.\u00a0 If you are not satisfied with the response of the business you can <a href=\"\/consumers\/how-to-complain\/\">take other actions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Find out what to look out for when shopping online &#8211; what to do if things don&#8217;t go as planned and what your rights are.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"parent":12505,"menu_order":50,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"tags":[23,15],"class_list":["post-568","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","tag-buying-online","tag-shopping"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
