The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (the Commission) has published its first Strategy Statement <\/a>for the period 2015 to 2018. The Commission\u2019s stated mission is \u201cto make markets work better for consumers and businesses\u201d <\/em>and the Strategy Statement will guide the Commission as it works towards its mission.<\/p>\n

Ms Isolde Goggin, Chair of the Commission commented \u201cthe publication of the Commission\u2019s first Strategy Statement is an important step as the strategic goals along with accompanying high level actions and key performance indicators set a clear course for our new organisation in the coming years.<\/p>\n

Over the next three years, as we continue to build the organisation, we are committed to focusing our resources in areas where we can have the greatest impact in delivering the best results for consumers, businesses and the economy as a whole. Open and competitive markets, where consumers make informed choices and assert their rights, are a key component in a strong economy and we are confident that we will play an important part as the Irish economy continues to recover.<\/p>\n

The development of our Strategy Statement was valuably informed by consultation with staff, a wide range of stakeholders and our contacts with consumers. Our roadmap is all the better thanks to the richness of the views received and, on behalf of the Commission; I would like to thank everyone who contributed\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Commission\u2019s four strategic goals are:<\/h4>\n

  • We will use our enforcement and regulatory powers to make markets work better and get the best results for consumers,<\/li>\n
  • We will promote the benefits of competition and consumer protection through our advocacy and public awareness activities,<\/li>\n
  • We will empower, and equip consumers to make informed choices and assert their rights<\/li>\n
  • We will continue to develop as a results-driven organisation that aspires to the highest standards in everything we do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
