The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has today published its 2021 Annual Report. The report details the CCPC\u2019s continued response to both Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing enforcement activities and programme of consumer and business information campaigns.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the launch of the 2021 Annual Report, the Chairperson of the CCPC, Jeremy Godfrey, said;<\/p>\n
\u201c2021 was a year of change and progress for the CCPC. We delivered important outcomes for consumers amid the challenges of Brexit and Covid-19. We secured legally binding commitments from motor insurers and highlighted our concerns about this sector. We also obtained commitments following a resale price investigation and required the destruction of almost one million non-compliant face masks before they reached the Irish market.<\/em><\/p>\n We continued to grow as an organization to meet our expanded remit, setting up a new Digital Investigations Division, a new Platform to Business Unit and expanding our Policy and Product Safety teams.<\/em><\/p>\n I am particularly pleased that significant headway was made on the progression of the Competition (Amendment) Bill and the Consumer Rights Bill. Both bills are important pieces of legislation and will mark a sea-change for competition and consumer protection law in Ireland, and will substantially expand our enforcement powers.<\/em><\/p>\n
