{"id":39632,"date":"2021-05-28T12:12:57","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T11:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ccpc.ie\/business\/?p=39632"},"modified":"2021-05-28T13:31:34","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:31:34","slug":"ccpc-to-jointly-lead-european-commission-dialogue-with-tiktok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ccpc.inventise.ie\/business\/ccpc-to-jointly-lead-european-commission-dialogue-with-tiktok\/","title":{"rendered":"CCPC to jointly lead European Commission dialogue with TikTok"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), as a member of the European Union Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Network, is co-leading a formal dialogue with social media platform TikTok to review its commercial practices and policies.<\/p>\n<p>The CPC Network is comprised of national authorities, including the CCPC, who are responsible for enforcing European Union (EU) consumer protection laws in EU and EEA countries. Under the CPC framework, national authorities can work together to effectively tackle widespread infringements of EU consumer law and review commercial practices of traders.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2021, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beuc.eu\/\">European Consumer Organisation (BEUC)<\/a> made a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beuc.eu\/publications\/beuc-files-complaint-against-tiktok-multiple-eu-consumer-law-breaches\/html\">complaint<\/a> to the European Commission alleging breaches of EU consumer law by TikTok, the social media video sharing platform. Areas of specific concern include hidden marketing and aggressive advertising techniques targeted at children.<\/p>\n<p>Following the complaint, the European Commission decided to launch a formal dialogue with TikTok, which is to be led by the CCPC and the Swedish Consumer Authority.
