{"id":13064,"date":"2017-08-04T15:21:45","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T14:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ccpc.ie\/business\/?p=13064"},"modified":"2017-08-04T15:29:32","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T14:29:32","slug":"ccpc-welcomes-new-member-brian-mchugh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ccpc.inventise.ie\/business\/ccpc-welcomes-new-member-brian-mchugh\/","title":{"rendered":"CCPC welcomes new Member Brian McHugh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>4 August 2017: <\/strong>The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) welcomes T\u00e1naiste &amp; Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Frances Fitzgerald\u2019s appointment of Brian McHugh as a Member of the Commission. The Commission comprises of an Executive Chairperson and three Commission Members. The appointment follows the completion of an open Public Appointments Service competition.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McHugh joins the CCPC following 15 years in Northern Ireland\u2019s Utility Regulator, the body responsible for both regulating and protecting the interests of consumers within the gas, electricity and water utility industries in Northern Ireland. During his time at the Utility Regulator, Mr McHugh led the design and implementation of competition to expand the gas network in Northern Ireland. He also oversaw the DS3 project, which increased the capacity of electricity systems to manage more renewable energy sources. Mr McHugh holds a BA in Economics from Trinity College, Dublin, and an MSc in Energy Economics from the University of Surrey.<\/p>\n<p>The CCPC has a broad mandate, with statutory responsibility for the enforcement of both competition and consumer protection law.
