{"id":37609,"date":"2020-07-24T09:08:13","date_gmt":"2020-07-24T08:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ccpc.ie\/business\/?page_id=37609"},"modified":"2020-08-06T09:19:17","modified_gmt":"2020-08-06T08:19:17","slug":"personal-protective-equipment-ppe-safety","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ccpc.inventise.ie\/business\/product-safety\/product-safety-legislation\/personal-protective-equipment-ppe-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The PPE Regulations<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=OJ:L:2016:081:TOC\">Regulation (EU) 2016\/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on personal protective equipment and repealing Council Directive 89\/686\/EEC<\/a> has been transposed in to Irish legislation by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishstatutebook.ie\/eli\/2018\/si\/136\/made\/en\/print\">European Union (Personal Protective Equipment) Regulations 2018 (S.I. No. 136\/2018)<\/a> (the PPE Regulations).<\/p>\n<p>The legislation provides that PPE cannot be placed on the market unless it\u00a0complies\u00a0with essential health and safety requirements in the PPE Regulations.<\/p>\n<h4>How is PPE defined?<\/h4>\n<p>According to the PPE Regulations, personal protective equipment means:<\/p>\n<p>(a) equipment designed and manufactured to be worn or held by a person for protection against one or more risks to that persons health or safety;<\/p>\n<p>(b) interchangeable components for equipment referred to in point (a) which are essential for its protective function;<\/p>\n<p>(c) connection systems for equipment referred to in point (a) that are not held or worn by a person, that are designed to connect that equipment to an external device or to a reliable anchorage point, that are not designed to be permanently fixed and that do not require fastening works before use;<\/p>\n<p>PPE are items like bicycle helmets and life jackets and also components designed to be used in protective equipment, such as filters in masks etc.<\/p>\n<h4>Does PPE have to carry a CE mark?<\/h4>\n<p>Yes, all PPE which is in compliance with the PPE Regulations must carry a <a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/business\/product-requirements\/labels-markings\/ce-marking\/index_en.htm\">CE mark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>The CCPC\u2019s role<\/h4>\n<p>The CCPC is the market surveillance authority for PPE for consumer use.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/hsa.ie\/eng\/\">Health and Safety Authority (HSA)<\/a> is the market surveillance authority for PPE in the workplace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PPE Regulations Regulation (EU) 2016\/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on personal protective equipment and repealing &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":178,"featured_media":0,"parent":2964,"menu_order":3,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","footnotes":""},"tags":[],"class_list":["post-37609","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
